There are good parts and bad parts about being a dad, but so far I have enjoyed parent-teacher conference. This was my second time, although I was so shell-shocked by the very concept on the first time around that it was a rather hazy experience.Due to a series of unfortunate events, Ami was not able to come with me (hint: think of the Nazgul shrieks). So I went alone and unarmed.
I was pleased to see that Ellie's various teachers like her a lot. She's doing great academically, although I still find it hard to understand why there has to be any academia in kindergarten. Her science teacher went on about how bright and curious Ellie is in class, how delightful a personality. Yes yes, I nodded. That is good to hear. What can one say? She reminded me a bit of Professor Trelawney, if you remember her from Harry Potter, although without the mystical part.
Fortunately there was no mention of any shrieking, Nazgul or otherwise. The only suggestion for improvement was to help her understand that when coloring time is over, you can't just keep on coloring. Well, we all have our flaws.
Nice job Ellie!

Wow, future criminal for sure.
I love that she goes by Eleanor in school.
Hui went to Sophie's P/T conference the other day - yes, I guess they have them for 2-year-olds as well - and Sophie was identified as a "disruptive influence".
She still takes her little blanket to class, and has the habit of dropping it on the floor every few minutes and saying "Where'd the blanket go?" with a demure little voice. As the only "foreign" baby in the group, she apparently has a bunch of little boys who are willing to chase after her and pick it up.
We had a word for that behavior when I grew up, but it's not repeatable in polite company. I can see nothing but trouble ahead ....
I would guess that going to a P/T for Ellie would be very edifying. She is an exceptional girl and a charmer.

Wow John!!! A comment! I'm so proud.
It cracks me up that Sophie is the "disruptive influence," since she is so obviously NOT a disruptive sort. Although, I can certainly understand the little boys chasing after her.
I love coloring, too. Sometimes Burke has to explain to me that I can't just color all the time. I guess it's just something you can't grow out of.
