We have a LOUSY cd player in our kitchen; it only plays some of our cds. I'm not sure of its criteria, but the player seems to weed out about 80% of our music. I went through 6 cds, all summarily rejected by the stereo, before I resorted to my favorite, which always seems inexplicably acceptable. I was secretly happy. It was what I really wanted to listen to, but I'm a little embarrassed to listen to it as much as I do. I listen to it so much that my 3 year old knows what it's called. "It ends with 7th," he states.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 is perfection itself. The man was brilliant!
I actually have two recordings of it, but honestly, who can compete with Leonard Bernstein??
I would upload the music here, but have spent the last hour failing to figure out how. Alas. Instead, you can go here and listen to tiny snippets, or simply buy your own copy.

I also have several pieces of music that I listen to OVER AND OVER AGAIN, and feel really guilty every time I hit the "Back" button to listen to it again. My current fave is Gabriel Faure's Requiem, the Introit et Kyrie. O! the part where they sing "et lux perPETUA!!! luceat eis!!!!" has me in raptures every time. I don't know why I feel so guilty, as it is only me and Setta in the car, and I don't think she really cares. Oh well. I'll have to check out Beethoven's 7th the Symphony.
Well, you can't be that Beethoven with a stick. It's great stuff. Try Sibelius, especially Symphony #2 and Finlandia. We played each of these in the Symphony when I was at UVSC and I had my heart in my throat the whole time. It's great news. Also Saint Saens Symphony No. 3. is a killer. You can see all of the above on You Tube. Sometimes I'll play air bass to some of these things like a big nerd.
Oh man! I love it!
I used to listen to the Allegretto over and over and over...
Somewhere, in a famous piece of literature whose name has totally escaped me, the protagonist said that if you wanted to know the meaning of life, you should turn Beethoven's 7th up to the highest volume you could get it to, and then put your ear right against the speaker. I agree with the sentiment, if not the actual act of blowing one's eardrums out.
Wow! I'm going to have to skip blowing my eardrums out. The sentiment, however, does indeed have merit.
I think instead I'll check and all the suggestions!
And Minna, I'm glad know I'm not the only one!
