Our neighbor across the street, who has lived here since the 12th century, claims the last time it snowed this much here was 1978. I hope he's exaggerating, because I'd love to have one or two of these every winter.
It started yesterday (Saturday) around noon, and slowly built up through the day. By nightfall it was coming down steadily.

This morning we all went out to explore the new landscape. The kids were pretty excited.

Ellie and Nico had a lot of fun figuring out what to do with it all. Snowballs were thrown, various forms of sliding took place.

The neighborhood looks so picturesque now -- kind of the classic winter look.

Let the shoveling begin! Ami wisely purchased two shovels a couple days ago, so we both attacked. In some places it was like building the transcontinental railroad... inching toward each other as we carved through the snow.

Veni, vedi, vici.

Ami couldn't resist.

We hope it lasts through Christmas!

Wow! That is ALOT of snow.
Fun to play in. It looks like that was a lot of work to shovel.
That is so much snow. We haven't even had that much at one time.
I'm jealous!
You aren't supposed to get that kind of snow! I think you took ours.
Wow!! That's all I can say
Awesome! All my Christmas dreams come true. Do you have a fire place? Cause we don't and it stinks.
WOW A child's dream come true- just before Christmas!
Better buy some salt to spread before it melts then freezes to ice!
Keep warm- have fun -Mom Anderson
Wuh-ow!
Glad you're enjoying it.
Amazing! We've got freezing weather in China ... but never any snow. We need to send Sophie out for a quick visit.
The snow has been fun! Ellie and Nico spent part of the day yesterday (Church was canceled) building a snow fort with the little boy across the street. The rest of the day they spent making trails through our snow and dripping on my kitchen floor. At one point we had to go next door and rescue Harriet who was stranded on a table in the middle of a neighbor's yard. She literally was stranded; she couldn't move in the snow.
Alas, for the fireplace. We have none. But long-term, we'd love to put at least a wood burning stove in. I'm completely jealous of anyone who has one. We are going to have a fire-pit in our yard though.
As for the dispatching of various cousins out to snowy lands... bring it on!
wow! that is a lot of snow! i was watching the news and wondering how you had fared. we have exactly one skiff out on our lawn. we had a fairly decent storm a week + ago and all of the snow got rolled up into a snow man :) thats a good place for it.
