Upon arrival in NY, the monkeys were happily slept with and were the animals of the moment for Ellie and Nico for a little while. Perhaps Anders saw the older kids carrying them around or perhaps it was the monkey itself. I don't know. All I know is that Anders got hooked. He carried it around all the time. He cuddled with it. He saw it in the swing once and climbed in to be with it. He laughed with it. He loved it. So much so, that we told Ellie she should consider giving her monkey to Anders, since in this case, possession was 10 10ths of the law. She graciously did give up her stuffed animal and Anders happily continued on with his monkey shenanigans.
Enter Liam. Liam is a bully. Liam routinely steals everything Anders has. If Anders has a toy, Liam takes it. If Anders has food on his tray, Liam takes it. If Anders has a binky, Liam takes it. Even if Liam already has his own binky, or food, or toy. Liam is a taker. Needless to say, Liam took the green monkey. Over. And over. And over. Anders was very sad.
All was not lost however, since there were two green monkeys about. Thus both babies happily tote around a green monkey. Nico even gave his monkey to Liam. Ellie and Nico are awesome big siblings.
Anyway, all this to explain why this is often the scene in our house:
Having learned super parenting skills from several friends, I asked my mom to get me a couple "back up monkeys" should one be lost, destroyed, or what not. They should arrive shortly. I simply do not want a Mino or Kiki incident on my hands in a few months.

Ok, that Kiki video was HEARTBREAKING! I totally know that pain. Adam and I honestly, truly mourned the loss of Mino. I hope you never have to mourn the monkeys.
Sigh.
BTW -- creepy picture of Ellie at the top of your blog! Total Watcher in the Woods!
Green Monkeys were finally mailed (UPS) today- Tuesday Sept 6th!
They won't be there til next Tuesday because I sent them by slow boat.
Sorry about that...we have been so busy with Jen breaking a wrist and then having surgery...B. Ray breaking upper arm, having xrays, cat scans etc !!! Green Monkeys are much more fun. Hope you last til next week.
And a birthday coming for the twins...and Lazarus in China!
Love..GMA A
For what it's worth, I appreciated the concept of the stuffed hamburger.
Ha ha I'm so glad that stuffed hamburger toy is out of my house! Not that I don't still have plenty of other random weird things here. Which belong to others, I might add. You are wise to get an army of back-up monkeys. Can the boys tell which one is theirs or are all monkeys equal to them? Sounds like Liam lives by the motto, "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine." What a couple of cuties.
Way to bring back some memories! I would like to announce that Scout has never looked back and expressed any problems with the new kiki, which at this point is every bit (and more) as beat up as the old kiki was. At 6, her fierce love hasn't waned either. About a year ago I found a book about a little mouse that had a favorite blanket and I checked it out for Scout thinking she would love it, but the mom ends up cutting it up when it got too old and doing something with one of the pieces as some kind of household monument. What a mistake! That book has totally scarred Scout and gets brought up fairly frequently.
Glad to see you are on top of those monkeys! The boys look so cute with them.
I think Emily Kim takes it a step further and has two blankets for Annabel that she rotates, so they are both equally beat up.
