aftermath

Hello to any who are interested - we rode out Sandy last night with no serious problems, and all is well for the time being.  We have no power, but it seems nobody on Long Island does right now.  Roads are shut down, my office is under 3' of water, and schools are closed until further notice, so we'll be hanging out here for the foreseeable future!

So glad you are okay. We've been praying hard for you and everyone else on the East Coast. Hope you are staying warm and enjoying, as best you can, your time together. As your Uncle James would say, Games! Games! Games!

I'm glad you guys are alright and hopefully no serious damage to your house...I can't believe some of the pics I've seen from Manhattan and further down, it looks like a ton of damage. I remember being a kid and when the power would go out (hardly ever) how excited and thrilled we were. I can't for the life of me now understand why we liked it so much? Hang in there, pull out the Where's Waldo books. Hope things get right soon.

I'm envisioning sitting around the fireplace and playing board games in the glow of a hurricane lamp with that red sweet smelling oil. Like Jane I used to love those times, so I hope you are able to enjoy it. The difference I suppose is that around here it generally never lasted more than 12 hours. I suspect you will be waiting on ConEd for a little longer (sorry). I hope all gets back to normal for you soon.

Vey glad you're all safe. I've been glued to the interwebs to see if I could pick out your house on the evacuation / radar / satellite / storm surge maps. When I saw that Fire Island got hit hard, I was worried, but hoped that it took some of the brunt for you. Hope you stay well and safe.

That might have been "Very" as is "Very glad" or perhaps it really is "Vey" as in "Oy Vey!"

I keep watching the Long Island Electric map to see how the power restoration is going. There are now some little hardhat icons in your area, which means the crews are working! In Utah today it is sunny and warm and very pleasant, and the power is on. Just saying.
