Nemo

Okay, I have to start by saying I'm a little annoyed by the Weather Channel up and naming all kinds of storms these days.  Where do they get off anyway?  Isn't that NOAA's job?  And another thing... why do all the media people jump on board with the names anyway?

Alright, enough of that.  This weekends blizzard has been a lot of fun for us.  I love, love, love being all cozy and warm in my house with the snow coming down outside and knowing that I don't have much of anything I absolutely have to accomplish the next day except shovelling, cooking, and hanging out with the family.  Such was this weekend... for us anyway.

Yesterday Alex's boss emailed and told him to work from home.  Bless her!  I simply cannot imagine the commute that would have been...   Yuck.  Instead, Alex worked from home and the library, and ended the day by running some errands in the evening.  He told me the snow wasn't just flakes by the time he was pulling in, but more like snowballs dropping from the sky.

Alex said he took this shot so he would always remember how much he loves his truck.  Look at it just going along with no trouble.  Or rather imagine it in motion...

We went out later that night to find our front lights being buried but making cool patterns in the snow.  The street was already starting to look pretty snowy.

Then morning came.  This wasn't our biggest storm since we've been here (see old posts for that one), but it was fairly sizeable.  We estimate that we got around 18 inches.  The drifts got quite a bit bigger than that though.  I can only imagine the towns just to the Northeast of us... upwards of 30 inches.  Wow.

The kids all had an awesome time playing outside ALL DAY.  In fact, Nico woke me up at about 7:30 this morning asking if he could go outside.  I did make him wait until I was out of bed.  Once he was out there, he stayed out until about 2:00.  Ellie was a little less hardy in the morning, but made up for it in spades in the afternoon.  They both built snow forts and had a snowball fight.  After what seemed like an eternity of preparation, I did actually mange to get the little boys out there.  They LOVED playing in the snow. They had NO interest in coming in... ever.  Spencer, the neighbor boy came over to join in the fun too.

Alex put our snowblower to good use today. We bought it last year and this is only our second time using it. He claims it paid for itself in today's use alone. His back thanks him.

We are happy to be safe and warm in our house now.  And judging by the state of my car, I am likely to be safe and warm in my house for some time... luckily they cancelled church tomorrow or I would have actually had to dig my car out.  Meanwhile... we are ready for the next big weather event.  Bring it on!

What a great way to spend a storm! Having seen the kids build snowmen out of parking lot slush or a 1/4 inch dusting of snow, I imagined they would fill your entire yard with snowmen. From the pictures it looks like all four of them decided to be the snowmen themselves this time.

Some fun! Especially if you don't have to go anywhere. I also think the name of winter storms is ridiculous. What's wrong with The Blizzard of 2013, I ask myself. Glad you are all ok. Grandpa was particularly worried.
