back

Hello again, we have returned to the blogosphere from the maelstrom of moving. It's good to be back.

As you might expect, that maelstrom has spun off all kinds of good blog post potential. In summary, it's been a wild ride but we're very glad to be here. It's going to be a great place for us. As several of you predicted, we were greeted with a variety of intriguing problems upon arrival, not least of which was the gas leak in the basement. This was detected immediately by the keen nose of Ami, and confirmed by the gas utility, who immediately shut off all gas to the house. While waiting several days for the plumber, we had lots of fun living without hot water or cooking gas. Ami made the most of the situation (as she usually does) by pulling out our propane camp stove, and thereby providing a delicious dinner right on schedule.

Fortunately, none of the problems have been too serious (so far).

As we hoped, the kids are really enjoying the big yard. Ami told me one evening that she had to work hard to convince them to come in and watch a movie. So that's a good sign. They make up games during the day, often help with weeding, and catch fireflies in the evening -- there are loads of them this year. So it's all very idyllic.

Well, that gets us started. More coming soon.

I expect an excellent encore.

I remember fireflies...how come they never made it past the Mississippi River?
How great to have such a nice home.
Your backyard looks great too = the grass looks high - do you lose Ellie and Nico in the grass?

Woo woo! Welcome back!

That picture of Ellie and Nico was taken right after we got there - the grass was high indeed. Ami attacked it with our new lawnmower and it is much more tame now.

It looks just beautiful, and the kids must be having the time of their lives.

Congratulations on the successful move! Ami does have a way of making the most of things. That's a great characteristic. As is her sense of smell. I cannot think of one time we have eaten at a restaurant together that she hasn't suspiciously sniffed the food. I think she was a Royal Taster in another life.

Jason says he'd bet Ami made bread on the gas stove!

Had it been me we totally would have ordered pizza.

I did NOT make bread on the gas stove. That would take an oven. But I bet we could have jerryrigged (I have no idea how to spell that word) one of those aluminum solar ovens and figured something out. As it was, we did order pizza the second night. It was raining and I didn't feel like cooking in the rain.

And as to my olfactory propensities, I just like to make sure I'm getting the whole gastronomical experience.

I also want to make sure my food (or the air I'm breathing) isn't going to kill me.

How fun! I smell everything also. I develolped a VERY strong sense of smell when I was pregnant with Alysha (it was strong before but not like it is now) and she must have that sense as well. She is always commenting on smells. The first thing she does before getting dressed or when helping me fold laundry is sniff the clothes. She always smells her food before eating and whatever I am cooking. We have had several close calls when she has tried to smell what is on the gas stove.
